TRIPLOID = has three of every chromosome

Preimplantation (0-5 days) - if a malformation occurs during this time, the baby will either die completely or regenerate to form a normal individual.

Embryonic phase (1-7 weeks) - most malformations occur during this stage - but not uniformly: each organ has its own period of sensitivity to teratogens.

Foetal period (8-40 weeks) - very few malformations occur
