ECR L24Look at the endocrine hormone lists on page 33 of the course-book and learn.
SIMPLE FEEDBACK:
PANCREAS - insulin and glucagon - changes in blood glucose; parathyroid hormone (PTH) and thyroid (calcitonin) - changes in plasma calcium.
SYSTEMS INVOLVING CNS/SEVERAL HORMONES:
CONTROL OF SALT AND WATER BALANCE:
Vasopressin - water retention
Aldosterone - sodium retention (leading to water retention)
ANP - sodium excretion
CONTROL OF INTERMEDIATE METABOLISM:
Insulin - lowers blood glucose
Glucagon, GH, adrenaline, cortisol and thyroid hormones - raise blood glucose
CONTROL OF CALCIUM BALANCE:
Parathyroid hormone - raises plasma calcium, along with vitamin D
Calcitonin - lowers plasma calcium
CONTROL OF GROWTH, DEVELOPMENT AND REPRODUCTION:
GH, thyroid hormones, prolactin, oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, LH, FSH, placental hormones, and oxytocin.
